| General information | Rostock is the largest town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and located in the middle of the sea-side resorts on the German Baltic coast. The name of the city originates from "roztoc", which means "the flowing of a river into all directions". Rostock has a very interesting , moving history and is therefore a member of the "Historic Highlights of Germany", a combination of twelve medium-sized German cities. The city is strongly influenced by its proximity to the sea which means wonderful water sports for visitors to enjoy. |
| Studying conditions | The University of Rostock is the oldest in Northern Europe. It was established on November 12th, 1419 in Rostock's Marien church and comprised of law, theology, arts and medical faculties. However, the university was very quiet for a long time. Nowadays, it has returned to a bustling, modern university with an excellent dentistry department which has been extended and updated in the past years. |
