| Name | Cologne |
| General information | Cologne is the largest city on the River Rhine - and one of the oldest. Living in Cologne means living in the centre of Europe with a wealth of history to be discovered. The city boasts numerous churches from the Roman era and you come face to face with history wherever you go. However, today Cologne is also a centre for film, art and economy: countless visitors arrive in Cologne every year eager to attend one of the many world famous exhibitions held there e.g. Art Cologne. Entertainment and having fun are also major elements of life in Cologne: the sociable and cheerful nature of those living on the Rhine is not only evident at carneval! |
| Studying conditions | The history of Cologne University stretches as far back as the 14th century. Nowadays, there is a healthy mixture of ideals and traditions. The faculty for economics and social sciences was previously part of the commercial college and is now the leading university faculty. The academy for practical medicine became the medical faculty which was completed, by adding the pre-clinical courses, in 1925. The university's dental department is located south-west of Cologne, near the city centre. Every year about 60 students commence a study of dentistry in Cologne, which will take an average of 5 years to complete. |
